The Lawn

Your lawn is the big green canvas to your landscape. Nothing brings out the true beauty of your home and has the neighborhood talking more than a great yard. It forms a framework for garden beds, pathways and patios. Your lawn also helps to prevent soil erosion and provides a soft, tolerant surface for recreational activities

The key in taking care of your lawn is to prevent problems and cure them as they spring up along the way. Growing a lush lawn requires good planning and establishing a systematic program of lawn maintenance and repair.

Mowing Tips

  • Make sure your mower has a sharp blade; ragged cuts release too much water from the grass blades.
  • Mow turf-type fescue at 3½” to 4” tall. Cut grass in shade areas higher to send more nutrition to the root system
  • Alternate mowing directions to avoid forming ruts in your lawn.
  • In hot weather, mow a bit higher (to encourage deeper roots).
  • Mow the lawn when it is about a third higher than the recommended mowing height.
  • Leave grass clippings on the lawn but don't leave clumps of the clippings. The clippings will add to organic matter and nutrients as they decay.
